Powder Sodium Silicate Melting Point 1089 Degrees Essential For Detergent Production

Product Description:

Sodium silicate, commonly referred to as water glass, exists in two primary forms: liquid and solid. The liquid form is the more frequently encountered type, characterized by its clear or light gray coloration and viscous texture.

On the other hand, the solid form of sodium silicate appears as crystals that can be light blue or light green in color. These crystals are either transparent or semi-transparent, giving them a distinct appearance compared to the liquid variant.

Chemically, sodium silicate is produced through the combination of sodium oxide and silicon dioxide. This composition underlies its unique properties and wide range of applications.

Features:

Sodium silicate aqueous solutions are alkaline in nature. This characteristic makes the solution basic, contributing to its various chemical properties and applications.

Once hardened, the silica gel that forms within sodium silicate imparts a strong binding force. This high binding strength is crucial for its use as an adhesive or in materials requiring durability and cohesion.

The heat resistance of sodium silicate is attributed to the silicon dioxide network structure created during the hardening process. When combined with heat-resistant aggregates, this material can endure temperatures up to approximately 1000°C, making it suitable for high-temperature environments.

Regarding acid resistance, sodium silicate demonstrates good corrosion resistance to the majority of acids. However, it is vulnerable to attack by hydrofluoric acid, hot phosphoric acid, and higher fatty acids, where its resistance is notably reduced.

The hardening process of liquid sodium silicate involves a reaction with carbon dioxide from the air, which leads to the formation of a silicic acid gel. This gel gradually hardens over time. The hardening process can be accelerated either by applying heat or by introducing hardening agents such as sodium fluorosilicate.

Applications:

Construction

Sodium silicate acts as a binding agent for various construction materials. It effectively binds bricks and stones, which contributes to the overall strength and stability of building structures. Additionally, it plays a significant role in producing fire-resistant materials. When applied as coatings or impregnating agents based on sodium silicate on wood and fabrics, it enhances their resistance to fire. Beyond construction materials, sodium silicate is also used to improve soil properties; injecting its solution into soil increases compactness and bearing capacity, thus enhancing ground stability.

Paper Manufacturing

In the paper industry, sodium silicate is utilized as both a filler and a coating agent. Its inclusion improves the mechanical strength of paper while also increasing its whiteness and smooth texture. Besides aesthetic enhancements, sodium silicate helps boost the paper's resistance to water and improves its ability to absorb ink, thereby enhancing print quality.

Detergent Production

Sodium silicate is an essential component in the formulation of detergents. It functions to soften water and remove grease effectively. Moreover, it prevents dirt and grime from redepositing onto surfaces during the cleaning process. Its presence also raises the alkalinity of detergents, which enhances their overall cleaning efficiency.

Chemical Manufacturing

Serving as a key raw material, sodium silicate is fundamental in producing various silicate-based products such as silica gel and zeolites. It is also employed in the manufacture of refractory ceramics and enamel products, where it contributes to improving the quality and functional performance of these materials.

Textile Industry

Within the textile sector, sodium silicate is used as a desizing agent and as an assistant in bleaching processes. It effectively removes sizing agents from fabric surfaces and enhances the bleaching outcome. This results in textiles that are softer to the touch and exhibit a brighter, whiter appearance.
